I have been trying to commit to blogging for the last two years. This domain has been dormant for far too long because I refused to make the time. I’m making time now because, at this moment in my life, I need to make significant changes across the board: finances, health, organization, and happiness. In other words, what priorities matter and how do I balance them. As you follow my journey out of the chaos, maybe you’ll find tips to take control and figure out the balance in your own life. The following introduction breaks down the blog’s structure and if you’d like to know more about me, please check out my About page.
To be honest, this blog is going to cover a lot of different topics. I know it is better to focus on one thing, but my life is chaotic (and a bit of disaster in places), and I would rather be transparent about all the obstacles I’m working to overcome. The structure of this blog reflects the same chaos, but I will try to keep organized and focused on one topic at a time.
I wanted to use this first blog post to talk about the different areas of my life that I’m working on taking control of and learning how to balance priorities.
My net worth is underwater. I owe $95K in student loans, and my credit card/other debt is entirely out of control. Frankly, I don’t even know how much I owe. In this section, you will find me blogging about how getting my finances back in good shape. I have already declared bankruptcy once, and I won’t do that again. As I go, I will talk about this path and some of the most useful things that have helped me to pay down and find security.

I started 2017 in the hospital for my birthday with the 4th blood clot due to a genetic blood clotting disorder. After going back on medication that I will be on for the rest of my life, I became determined to take control of my physical health. I had needed dental work, but more significantly, I revisited my physical health and realized I had barely scratched the surface.
At my highest weight, I weighed 343.9 pounds, which was almost 50 pounds more than I had carried over the past 15 years. It wasn’t that I was terrified, but I wasn’t happy with that weight and the way I physically felt. My clothes didn’t fit right, I was winded easily, and I had to ask for a seatbelt extender on airplanes. I finally committed to making the lifestyle changes in my diet and exercise that I’ve put off. I started Weight Watchers on August 8, 2017. Since then, I’ve lost more than 50 pounds by tracking my food and making more of an effort to move.
My primary goal for this section is to track my progress and to continue to take control of my physical health, but I will also be talking about my mental and emotional health struggles.

I love finding ways to be more organized even as my parts of my life are incredibly disorganized. This section will look at the ways that organization helps me accomplish taking control of my life. Topics in this section will cover how I use my bullet journal and how I organize my daily life. I will also touch on my favorite systems and productivity hacks.

Know Thyself Introduction:
In these posts, I’ll work through what I value and what I want to do with myself. I also want to think about how to incorporate mindfulness into my daily life better. Most importantly, this is going to be the section where I figure out what makes me happy.

Building a Better Blog Introduction:
And last, but not least, I will be using this section to talk about the blogging experience. I want to help other bloggers figure out what worked for me and what might work for them. Eventually, I’d like to use this blog to start a business of my own.

On the outside, this is a massive project, but to me, it is my life. I know deep in my heart that I have to make these changes even if it takes ten years. Honestly, I hope that you will find something valuable as I chronicle my struggles and successes in these different areas.
I welcome you on my journey to find balance as laid out in this introduction. Please follow me by subscribing to my newsletter.
